The annual B inter-high took place on Saturday and 26 schools participated in the event. St Mary’s entered both a B and a C team and both teams fared exceptionally well. Both the B and C teams topped their respective pools at St Andrew’s and Northcliff. Unfortunately, the two teams played each other in the semi-finals. The B team won the exciting match by one game and went on to win the title by beating a strong Helpmekaar team by the same margin. The C team ended in a very credible fourth position, losing a close match to St Stithians.

Well done to the B team, comprised of Ruth Moore, Nina, Shannon and Izabela, on this excellent result. Congratulations to Hayley, Hannah, Georgina and Tamsyn on the C team’s placing. It was an enjoyable morning of tennis and I thank Julia Standish-White for all her help and encouragement throughout the day. A big thank you is extended to and all the parents and grandparents who came to support the players.

We even had a lucky mascot in a black Labrador called Truper. I am extremely proud of all the players. St Mary’s is currently the holder of all three inter-high titles, which is an awesome and rare achievement. I should also like to make a special mention of the matrics who played on Saturday. Thank you for your dedication and commitment over the past five years to tennis at St Mary’s. Your play on the court and behaviour off the court has been a credit to St Mary’s.

Congratulations to Tamsin and Alexis for being chosen for the Gauteng Central U19 A team. Tamsin won all her matches at the trials to be selected as the number one player in the team.

Congratulations to Ruth for being chosen for the Gauteng Central U19 B team as the number one player and Sarah (Form I) for being chosen as the number three player in the U15 A team.
