St Mary’s Foundation and Standard Bank gratitude assembly

To quote Kofi Annan, former secretary-general of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, “there is no tool for development more effective than the education of girls and the empowerment of women”.

St Mary’s strives for excellence and it is this excellence that we believe will set young women on a journey to a successful career.  We believe that this tremendous act of kindness and investment in girls’ education by Standard Bank’s Business and Commercial Banking division will not only have an enormous impact on the life of a young girl, but also that of her family and community. Further to this, St Mary’s is well placed to develop highly skilled females for the South African economy and we believe that each one of you will add a skill in whatever field you choose to pursue.

There are currently seven girls on the St Mary’s Foundation bursary programme, each with different talents, who are embracing their dreams of becoming active members of South African society.

It is evident from school reports that these girls have truly embraced the academic, cultural and sporting opportunities available to them, and we commend them for this.

We extend our sincere thanks and enormous gratitude to Standard Bank Business and Commercial Banking for the very generous contribution to providing an opportunity for a young girl on the St Mary’s Foundation bursary programme, to develop to her full potential at St Mary’s.

The opportunity of a bursary to attend St Mary’s would not be possible without the generosity and partnership of donors to the Foundation.
